Year 5

    General Information

 

A warm welcome to year 5,where we are confident that pupils will excel in their learning by undertaking a range of exciting topics and activities.

Any problems or worries feel free to contact Mr McHale, who will be on the school playground at the end of each day.

 

 

School Timings

 

The school gates open at 8:45am. Pupils should be in their classroom at the start of registration at 8:55am each morning.

Morning Break 10:30 - 10:45am.

Lunch 12:15 - 1:15pm.

End of the school day 3:15pm.

Pupils should be met by parents/guardians on the school playground at home time, which is 3.15pm.

 

P.E

 

P.E. is on Tuesday and Wednesday during Spring 2 term. Children will be required to wear full P.E. kit with pumps or trainers-laces must be securely tied. In cold weather a warm jogging suit, or tracksuit bottoms and plain sweat top is advisable. Children with medical conditions must bring their medication into school with them. Long hair must be tied back and all jewellery removed.Ear-rings must be removed or covered with a plaster.

A varied range of after school clubs will be on offer during the year.

 

Homework

 

Reading - Children should read at least five times a week and this should be recorded in their Home/School Diary. Pupils will receive team points each time they read and complete their reading record.

Spelling - Children should learn their spellings that they have been set in their Home/School Diary.

Bedrock - Children should complete at least two Bedrock lessons per week.

Log in details can be found in their Home School Diary.

Maths - Children should continue to practise times tables at home until they have mastered all times table’s facts including division facts (up to 12 x 12); they can do so using Times Tables Rock Stars. Children also have access to online maths games on the active-learn website, which should be accessed at least twice a week..

 

In addition to the above weekly homework, children should complete at least one piece of topic homework per half term (ideas are contained in the home school tasks document).

 

Educational Visits.

 

During spring 1 pupils will be undertaking class visits to the English Institute of Sport in Sheffield and to Eden Camp in Malton, North Yorkshire (World War 2 Museum).On this second visit to Eden camp pupils will be expected to be in school at 8.20 am for a prompt 8.30 am start. Pupils will be returned to school before the end of the school day at 3.15 pm.
