Year 6

Welcome to Year 6

Class Teacher - Mrs Stubbings

Throughout the year we aim to get our children ‘secondary ready’; we do this by encouraging the children to be as independent as possible. Above all else, we endeavour to ensure our children have an extremely enjoyable final year at primary before we bid them a fond farewell.

School Day and Times

The school gates open at 8:45 with the school day officially starting at 8:55.

Playtime 10:30 - 10:45

Lunch 12:15 - 1:15

School Finishes 3:15

P.E

PE for Autumn term is on a Monday afternoon. Most of the time it will be outdoor and therefore children will be expected to have PE t shirts, jogging bottoms and trainers. They can also wear a jumper if they are cold. Indoor PE kit, will consist of t shirt and shorts, when the weather is too bad to go outside. Children are expected to always have their P.E kits in school. Kits are taken home on the last day before a holiday and are expected to be returned on the first day back.

Homework Expectations

Homework is sent home at the start of each half term and is based on the topic. The activities encourage your child to be more creative in their approach to homework. Pieces of homework will be displayed in class during the half term, before being celebrated in an assembly at the end of each half term.

However, because the children are Year 6, there will also be other homework, on occasion. This homework is to support work they have done in class, further their practice of skills they are learning and, ultimately, help them to be ready for the SATs. In addition to this, children need to be:

Reading - at least three times a week and this should be recorded in their Reading Record

Spelling - Children should learn the spellings that have been set

Maths - Children should continue to practise times tables at home until they have mastered all times tables facts (up to 12 x 12).
