Year 6 Timetable 2022 - 2023

Welcome back to a new school year at St. Mary's!

As a member of Year Six, we expect to you to be hard working, organised and set the example to the rest of the school. We know that you will rise to this challenge and set high standards for yourself.

PE for this term will be on a Thursday afternoon - please ensure that you come to school in your PE kit.

You need to bring your reading diary and reading book to school, everyday. The expectation is that you will read at least 3 times each week, at home.

This page will be updated regularly, so keep checking to find out what is happening in Year Six.

Art in Year 6

In our Art lessons, over the last few weeks, we have been looking at the Impressionists. We started with some colour mixing against a strip of Claude Monet's painting 'The Japanese Footbridge.' We then recreated that strip of the painting, using our colour mixing skills, before having a go at recreating a full Impressionist painting. Some of our efforts are shown below.

FUEL day at St. Bernard's

Year 6 had an amazing time at St. Bernard's, for their FUEL day; they joined with other feeder schools for science experiments, pizza making, maths investigations and singing.

Ancient Egyptian day

What an amazing day! The children dressed up as archeologists or ancient Egyptians to help get into the spirit of the day. There were quizzes, artefacts, games and Pharaoh's birthday party (closely followed by a mummification) throughout the day. Lots of fun (and learning)!!!

Crucial Crew

Year Six had an amazing day at Crucial Crew. It was action packed, with so many activities, all of which are designed to give Year 6 life skills to help them as they move from Primary school to Secondary school. A brief summary, of the skills they learned, is given below:

Year 6 Residential - Kingswood Activity Centre, Dearne Valley.

Well, what an amazing time was had by all! Three days of fun activities and new learning. All the children were able to challenge themselves to try out new skills. They persevered, showed great resilience and worked together as a team - all the best attributes, we could ask for! Below are a few of the photographs, showing their amazing achievements.

Holy Week - The Last Supper

Year 6 were due to lead the Mass of the Last Supper. Unfortunately, due to illness, they were unable to share their this with parents and parishioners. Below is the power point of the drama (freeze frames) they created, of the story of the Last Supper.

FAITH celebration afternoon

After gaining 50 FAITH points for Friendship, Attitude, Inspiring, Teamwork and Honesty, we celebrated with an afternoon at Coronation Park. We had a great time - the sun was shining as we enjoyed a lovely afternoon off timetable!

DEN BUILDING

On Monday 26th July, we had an amazing morning building dens on our field. As well as learning new skills of putting together a den that would withstand wind and rain (lots of zip ties and tarpaulin!), we used the skills of teamwork, leadership and patience. We've got some fantastic memories to take with us, as we move onto Secondary School!

Year 6 Art - Make My Voice Heard

This term, we have been able to concentrate on our art skills again and we've made some amazing pieces of work. We started by exploring the patterns, symbols and colours of Mayan art, in our sketch books. We created our own pieces of artwork, using symbols that were personal to us. We then tried the drawing technique of Chiaroscuro, observing how light and dark can make something look 3D, before putting it altogether to create our final piece of artwork. Our final pieces can be seen in the school hall, as part of an exhibition for our Leaver's assembly. We hope you enjoy our work.
