Welcome to Year 6 Dowling

Mrs Kitchen

Note to parents:

We try our best to prepare our children through our normal curriculum and for life wider than school.  Remember, it's really important to be at school every day, on time and ready to learn.

P.E Days

Year 6 Rowling will have P.E on a Wednesday and Thursday afternoon.

Full P.E is required to be worn.

P.E kit should include a plain white t-shirt or a white t-shirt with the school logo on, black/navy blue shorts or jogging bottoms, a black/blue jumper and a pair of trainers.

No earrings should be worn and hair should be tied back if long enough to do so.

What you can do at home...

TTRS - Times tables knowledge helps with all strands of math.

Reading - Read at least three times a week. This helps with comprehension skills, writing skills, vocabulary knowledge and imagination. Where will your reading take you?

Spelling Shed - Practise spellings each week to improve your skills.

What our week looks like...

Reading

We really want to develop a love for reading as it is a vital part of children's learning. It is a way to explore new ideas, develop their understanding of the world, expand their vocabulary and have fun. We encourage your child to read as regularly as possible and for you to talk together about the books they are reading. Children can read story books, non-fiction, magazines or even website pages.

Why not sign up to a local library where you can read for free?

Mathematics

At St Mary's we follow the White Rose maths scheme. Through taught lessons pupils will be encouraged to practise, understand and develop their skills of fluency, problem solving and reasoning. The ability to recall multiplication skills will play an important part of each child being able to access maths at their ability as times tables facts underpin a large area of key concepts within the maths curriculum.
